Prompt Prices at a Premium to Winter

The focus this week has been on the prompt markets with system constraints and gas uncertainty the main cause. Together the constraints and uncertainty have had an interesting impact on the shape of the power forward curve.

The focus this week has been on the prompt markets with system constraints and gas uncertainty the main cause. With Sizewell B reactor still out at the start of the week there was a shift in the shape of the Power curve as prompt prices, which had been at a £1.45MWh discount to Winter 10 last week, switched places to trade at a £0.20MWh premium. With the unit back on line by the end of the week, pressure eased and Winter 10 closed Friday down £0.5MWh at £44.80MWh. Winter 11 also close down marginally at £48.95MWh. read more ...
