Power Prices Ride the Crest of the Fuel Wave

26 April 2010

A bullish fuel market fed through into the UK Power Market today with gains of over £2/MWh seen on most of the seasonal curve contracts.

A bullish fuel market fed through into the UK Power Market today. A short gas system triggered strengthening gas prices which subsequently fed through into the power market. UK Power prices for Winter 10 gained £2.40/MWh to close the day offered at £44.55/MWh, Winter 11 was offered at £48.50/MWh (up £2.475/MWh) while Winter 12 was assessed at £53.45. Will this bullish sentiment continue into the week ahead? That will depend on whether there is real confidence in the fundamentals that have pushed up prices or whether players will buckle looking to take some quick profits.
