Middle of November but no sign of wintery temperatures. The effect was to soften the prompt power market, which also felt the pressure from weak commodity curves. The downward trend fed through the power curve.
With mild weather and plentiful gas supplies, the power curve on Friday felt the pressure. The Day Ahead price closed down £0.5/MWh at £34.60. But the pressure fed through into the seasonal contracts too with Winter 10 shedding £0.45/MWh to finish the day at £44.95/MWh and Summer 10 closing at £37.25MWh. It seems a case of 'steady as she goes' with plenty of generation, fuel supplies and continuing mild weather. A cold snap is the only thing likely to upset the balance.

Coal although massively in demand has risen so much in price that players have switched to gas, this in turn has risen and perhaps as all commodities prices start to fall on economics some will start to look at coal more seriously again. read more...
