Gains Seen Across the Curve

21 December 2009

There was no sign of an early Christmas in the power market on Friday with a 'flurry' of trading resulting in gains across the power curve.

The prompt power market rallied on the back of reports of an anticipated tight system for the Monday before Christmas. The Day Ahead contract closed at £40.85MWh, up £4.75. The bullish sentiment fed through the curve helped by a strong gas market with Summer 10 closing up £0.35MWh and Winter 10 up £0.5MWh at £45.50 to breach the £45MWh level which had been acting as a ceiling for the past 6 weeks. On the whole, the market was relatively quiet as trading desks start to wind down for Christmas.
