New trading levels anticipated in UK Power Markets

28 August 2009

The electricity market saw two main technical levels breached for the first time in the Summer 10 and Winter 10 contracts.

The electricity market saw two main technical levels breached for the first time with Summer 10 consistently trading below £40MWh and Winter 10 trading below £50MWh. For the last three and half months these levels have not been breached and the market has jobbed just above these levels. The new breach suggests that this week could see a significant sell off. With prompt power and gas under pressure, there is very little support at these levels and particularly given that may traders are away, the market is failing on quite thin volumes and prone to setting a new low.
