Whilst the prompt market tends to dominate as traders are away on holiday, there is a distinct feeling of comfort in the power market. The industry has accepted the 20% Centrica BE deal and the OFT has not objected. Gas prices coal prices and oil prices all remain extremely stable and the low volatility is perhaps giving some players a false
sense of security with regard to the way in which commodities markets can move. In short the electricity market has fallen asleep and will reawaken when players return in September.
