A sliding Prompt

14 November 2008

A comfortable system in terms of supply margins left the prompt power market sliding.

A comfortable system in terms of supply margins left the prompt power market sliding. And though NGC revised its demand forecasts for the coming months downwards, it is likely that this view had already been priced into the curve. It seems that the prompt markets took their lead from the Spot markets which felt the pressure from the mild weather forecasts. December Baseload closed at £67/MWh (over £15/MWh down from traded prices at the start of November). Further out, it seems that the power curve took direction from softer fuel markets. Interestingly, Coal prices (CIF ARA) for delivery in '09 closed below $100/tonne for the first time since December 2007 closing at $97/tonne.
