A combination of factors appear to have influenced UK power demand causing National Grid to revise downwards its winter demand forecasts for Weeks 45 & 46. It is said to be keeping a close eye on demand outturn going forward which may cause it to review its winter outlook. Demand has been a lot lower than in previous years with similar weather conditions. It could be a simple combination of school holidays and clock change although industrial performance must surely have an impact on demand going forward. The economic slowdown is already filtering through into industry such as construction and car manufacturing. The well supplied physical system has certainly helped put pressure on market prices
