Energy Intensives Users Group hint that Summer is a concern

30 January 2008

The EIUG make some interesting observations but it is clear that the relationship between the spark and dark spread is of growing importance.

The EIUG have hinted in a recent report that expect the Summer to be tighter than normal mainly on the back of the LCPD and this is having more of an effect on UK business than the foreign competitors who do not have a similar scheme. Furthermore, the expectation is the industry will not scale back demand to reflect the possible squeeze in prices.

It is clear also that the EIUG has to look more carefully at the dark and spark spreads which show that the sparks are all belwo the darks. Furthermore the difference between the summer and winter prices are almost twice the difference so the coalers will always run during the Winter.

CRC- What Price?

03 February 2012

In November it was reported that traders in the UK energy markets were beginning to place bets that the Government will not go ahead with its controversial Carbon Floor Price. The Carbon Floor Price has relevance to the CRC, not least because some commentators have suggested that the fixed price levels could track the known Carbon Floor Price. Current EUA prices also seem vastly at odds to the proposed CRC price. British business is lobbying hard for a level and competitive playing field.  read more...
