Ukraine and Russia continue to fight

08 February 2008

Balkan energy policy is heavy with the stench of politcial interference.

The Ukrainians and Russians continue to argue over gas. It is clear that the Russians will turn off gas production to Ukraine as they feel that there have been unpaid bills in the past. This argument goes way beyond a simple contractual tiff, both nations have involved their prime ministers and ahead of the Russian election is a fantastic opportunity for Putin to flex his muscles and show the Russians that he is politically strong.
