Short term worries sorted

16 October 2007

Gas supply increases at the same time that two nuclear units return. Prompt price may well return below £30 and the sell off could be short and quick. Oil pries continue to worry.

Players were relieved to see Monday produce a system buy price consistently below £30, furthermore the return of two nuclear units and the opening of the Tampen gas line has given the market a sudden injection of gas. There is no doubt that in the gas market many players are looking to use the gas to put into storage and when this actually stops (i.e when the storage is full which should be pretty soon!) then we will see a sell off as the supply will outstrip demand. This will be even more enhanced if the interconnector starts flowing towards the UK as opposed to today when it is flowing towards France.
