So it is clear that the scientists whilst in total disagreement as to why the world is warming up, have managed to persuade the politicians, that the green debate will not go away. What is also becoming more difficult to understand is that the facts in these debates are becoming sillier and more distant from reality.
So here are a few which might help clarify things:-
1. The UK produces less than 2% of the worlds carbon dioxide. (In the next 7 years the growth in Chinas economy will produce the same amount of carbon the UK does today.)
2. Of this 1.7% of the worlds carbon dioxide, 26% is produced by homeowners (within the home, through the consumption of electricity) 22% is transport 3% is other and 49% is industry (of which 68% is electricity generation). The above figures are only for human production of CO2, farming is excluded as is natural CO2 by trees.
3. The main form of reduction in CO2 comes from energy efficiency, and this is where the government aim to get their 60% reductions in by 2050. What they fail to mention is that this 60% reduction could include buying 50% AAU's the Kyoto units which each country produces. This means that the UK could only cut emissions by 30% and we could get other countries to cut by a further 30% but this in turn would lead to a world shortage of 30% and not 60%.
Finally, the costs associated with pricing out carbon industries have not been equated for, so the cost of generation will rise significantly. The cost of producing in this country will also rise significantly.
