Blackle

01 August 2007

A gimmick which is reasonably interesting!

www.blackle.com

This is a website designed by the good men and women of Google. When pointed out to them that by having a white background on their search engine that this consumes more electricity than a black one, they promptly responded with a change. They estimate that they will save 0.75 TWh a year if users switch.

The only slight disadvantage is that once you have located your search you tend to click on the site which is more often than not white.

If the world looks as though it will encourage black screens Powerisk will look to chnage as well. It will be hedging this against optician shares!
