Mild weather causes the curve to take its lead from the prompt, which is slashed in balmy January.
The mild weather is causing a more bearish mood to come to the fore in the markets. Interestingly, the bull markets we have seen in the past six months, have been bold, swift and aggressive, we £5 + moves in a day. It could be said that the opposite is the case with the bear market which tends to caustiously drop 10p to a £1 in a day. It is however, fairly relentless with January so far being a slow death. Perhaps the only area which is holding up is Summer 06 and Summer 07. Difficult to justify buying Summer 06 at £41 when day ahead is trading at £46. If the mild weather continues the market will continue to drop a little at a time.
Summer will not drop dramatically and this most apparent if you compare volatility between the Summer 06 and Winter 06 with Winter trading at a premium (in terms of volatility and not premium itself) to Summer.
