Potential strikes in the France have seen a four pound differential on price between Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday rising to £38/MWh. There is no doubt that a strike may put pressure on the french system and this in turn will put pressure on the Uk system to export, but only if there is enough over capacity to be able to do it. The market should reflect the potential increase in demand but not by £4 this seems excessive for what is really a storm in a teacup.
Winter 05 went into the ether of trading history with a damp squib closing below £50/MWh. There is no doubt that if Winter remains mild, and the prompt is not too sensitive as a result of consumers going onto prompt pricing structures, the market will beat £50/MWh. However with the market as jittery as people suggest then the likelihood is that players will see some serious spikes
