Gas perhaps slightly oversold in the last couple of weeks, has started to rise on supply fears and picking up demand. Traders are still jittery and many will have looked at their recent selling and decided that it is better to be long and so this has seen more buying. The market has gapped and many have realised that it is best to buy more even if this means bridging a 50p spread. The market is aware that gas supplies are reaosnably tight, and that if this were to become very problematic rising emissions prices and gas prices would cause the market to rise uncontrollably. There is a real issue that the security of supply and meeting growing emissions prices will not possible and this will see a Black Wednesday type scenario in the power market.
