Power Prices Surge again

26 May 2005

Surging power prices on a bit of emissions fear.

Winter 05 was pushed higher to £51.00 MWh, thin volume saw only a few trades as power prices gapped up to new highs. The main driver for this rise was emissions prices which pushed up to €20 /tonne after the low figures annouced for the Italian NAP. There is no doubt that the commodity markets are showing classic signs of not working with gapping, thin volumes and traders speculating wildly on foreign NAP's and the effect they have on the UK market will be so minimal. In reality this is like saying that a power plant will be closed for the whole of winter 05 not something which in reality should see a £1 increase across the board.

CRC- What Price?

03 February 2012

In November it was reported that traders in the UK energy markets were beginning to place bets that the Government will not go ahead with its controversial Carbon Floor Price. The Carbon Floor Price has relevance to the CRC, not least because some commentators have suggested that the fixed price levels could track the known Carbon Floor Price. Current EUA prices also seem vastly at odds to the proposed CRC price. British business is lobbying hard for a level and competitive playing field.  read more...
