Curves react across Europe

20 May 2005

How do you control the uncontrollable?

The general consensus across all the European Power markets was a rise in the curve and a fall in the prompt. In the UK the rises have been attributed to spark spread trading, and this pushed Winter 05 baseload to a new high of £48.15. Powerisk has discussed the magic 50 number, and it does look as if Winter 05 could easily trade to these highs. There is no doubt that the bullish sentiments across the energy markets has meant that players are just trading with the market and almost day trading seasonal movements. This is not a good sign for the market and it is hoped that some form of bearish pressure enters the market to control the uncontrollable rise.
