Summer 05 Steady as she goes

Powerisk takes a look at Summer 05

With the second to last day of Summer 05 trading, at £28.65/MWh, for baseload Powerisk looks at this contract. Prompt prices took a knock trading down with warm weather and a general view that things were a little overpriced. However, this has not always been the case with Summer 05 trading to highs of £35/MWh in October 2004. The season started out trading at £15.50/MWh in 2003 when the generators were long and the supply margin looked healthy and gas prices were at 6p/therm. The recent rise in 2005 from £24.20/MWh to todays prices have been oil driven, and those who have not hedged now would be wise to let the hedge run to the prompt and hope that the price spikes of September are not too severe.
