Fuel mix data made availble for customers but why?

Ofgem have published guidelines as to the fuel mix for suppliers to their customers. In future your bill will show how much power has been produced from renewables, nuclear coal gas etc. In a traded market this is a bit like saying that the £10 you got out of the cash machine has been involved in 25 transactions 4% of which were illegal............. In reality this is a european government incentive designed to give information to customers to show that 20% of their power has come from coal or gas or renewables. In reality dinner parties conversation will still be about how much you paid and not where your power came from. The truth is that if you live near a nuclear power plant your power actually comes from that power plant, the fact that you have bought from a green supplier is nice but you haven't changed the fuel mix as a result.
