The Classic Trading Dichotomy

19 July 2005

Will it go up or will it go down?

Traders were still unsure which direction the market would take on Monday, with wide bid/offer spreads and few trades beyond Summer 06. The difficulty is that after a massive fall there was bound to be some buying strength but what traders are trying to ascertain is how strong the buyers are. Early evidence suggests that now that it has come off buyers are stepping back and waiting for further drops. Furthermore unlike previous weeks the prompt is in decline and gas and carbon have dropped significantly. Oil although marginally up is of little real influence. It will also take some time for the market to recover from the volatility levels seen, with players that have big positions finding it difficult to get out of their position in a short price period. The market looks to be more balanced and this can only be good.
