Mike O Brien the UK energy minister announced that the UK government was looking to invest £42m in tidal and wave power generation. It is expected that once projects have been assessed it would be less than three years before they were operational and on the grid. It has been a widely held view that the UK could be a world leader in this field with significant tidal pull throughout the island. The government will use this money to set up test schemes which could lead to a large scale fully operational scheme by 2010.
