Winter 05 driven up by a cacophony of events.
Winter 05 pushed through £40/MWh. Some traders argued that this was due cold snaps, rising gas prices and gas fears for supply. In reality probably the big driver is the increasing emissions prices which have doubled to circa 14 euro since the beginning of year. This increase puts pressure on power supply during the winter when spark spreads are low and generators will turn off so that they can sell permits and make more money.
