EU Energy Minister extols wind

08 April 2005

Wind consolidation may be the future for the security of supply.

The EU Energy Minister, highlighted that Europe was the world leader when it came to wind generation. However, the biggest barrier to further development and hitting the proposed target of 12% of generation by 2010, was security of supply. There is no doubt that wind can be sporadic and therefore the generation itself, can be difficult to secure keep constant. However, there are a number of papers which extol the virtues of a portfolio of wind generation and that a relatively random spatial distribution will result in a constant wind flow, resulting in a constant level of generation.
