A winters tale
Winter 05 the front season has been highly reactive to emissions and oil prices. Winter 06 three seasons away has been following general trends but still trades at a £3 lower differential to Winter 05. The main reason for this is that fundamentals are predicted to change between the two different time periods, with oil and gas prices dropping further out. Also with emissions bankable between years perhaps it may be worth holding on for 2007/08 to redeem ones permits and manage the status quo in Winter 06. But do not be fooled Winter 06 will soon become a focus of traders and the spread which has been widening to as much as £3 could well get narrower.

The Carbon Floor Price has relevance to the CRC, not least because some commentators have suggested that the fixed price levels could track the known Carbon Floor Price. Oil received a boost from lower than expected stock levels (again) and hopes that a US debt deal could be reached.
