MP's today have stated that UK Power cuts are more likely to happen as a result of the imposed spending plans on distribution made by Ofgem. Although Ofgem have allowed distribution companies to increase revenues by 1.3% in real terms in order to pay for long-term upgrades, some MPs have stated that these do not go far enough, and that maintaining the network with smaller maintenance budgets will be difficult.
In reality the regulator reports to the government, and the government is responsible for setting the regulators role. Which include security of supply and customer value. One suspects that an argument between MPs and the regulator is a spurious one.
