Volatility

Volatility measures the rate of change in price movements, it does not discriminate as to which way the price moves. Options (Derivatives) traders trade volatility. There are two main types of volatility: historical and implied. Historical is the standard deviation on a range of prices, this measurement is dependent upon the interval of trading and this varies between commodity. Implied Volatility is calculated using the premium associated with an existing option and back calculating.
